General Information: Windy Knowe is situated in a residential area of Oxton, Birkenhead and has rear views over open fields of the nearby Wirral Ladies Golf Course. The building originates back to 1903 and retains some of the original architecture within the communal areas. The building has recently been refurbished to a high standard. Windy Knowe is both a Nursing and residential home with 49 beds on 3 floors all accessible by lift and all have access to the extensive gardens to the rear of the building. We are able to meet the needs of the local community for mental health care I residential or nursing setting for both over 65 and under 65 years of age. All rooms meet the minimum standard for space requirements as specified in the care Standards Act 2000. Social Activities: An activities coordinator is employed within the home to provide individual, group and general activities to the residents. These activities are adapted to suit individual needs and may include outside entertainers and trips out utilizing our mini bus. There are through out the home 3 communal lounges 2 dining rooms and a quiet room for one to one or private meetings. Our activities coordinator liases with local support groups, churches, and schools, to provide a varied selection of activities. Services: Services provided for the comfort and needs of our residents include: Access to GP of their choice, clergy visits, chiropody, hairdressing, optician, mobile library and delivery of daily newspapers. Meals are arranged around residents’ individual dietary needs and choices are offered at all meal times. The menus are reviewed 4 times a year and seasonal options added as necessary. We liase with the local dieticians should any specific special diets be required. Philosophy of Care: To ensure a homely environment, combined with the highest quality of care. Staff will preserve the dignity, individuality and privacy of each individual. Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their individual Care Plans along with the involvement of family and friends.
