Nursing and Care Home Reviews

Here are a selection of recent reviews of our nursing and care homes in Shropshire, Cheshire and the Wirral.

Beech House

“I would like to comment on the staff and facilities at this care home. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff are polite and caring, always chatting to the residents and visitors. My mother who is not the easiest person to get on with says the people here are nice. My mum has a nice room overlooking the gardens and she can listen to the birds in the morning which she enjoys. I would totally recommend this care home.”

“This home provided very good care. The staff are excellent and the food is very good with good choices of menu. The home is very clean and warm and welcoming.”

Bucklow Manor

“I honestly cannot thank all the staff enough. We were so worried about nan going into a care home but they have not only cared for her, she has a new lease of life. She’s smiling again, she genuinely loves being there. On top of that it, they have made it feel like a family. They have made us feel part of that family too. There is not one negative thing I can say. Thank you so much.”

The home is very welcoming and the staff are lovely. Everybody chats to each other and spends a lot of time together. I have no concerns at all.

Oxton Grange

“Very satisfied and happy here in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Always very clean, comfortably furnished with a lovely garden – also furnished with chairs and tables. Food satisfactory.”

Valerie C on

“When we were told mum needed to go into a care home, we were very nervous due to the negative press about care homes. Thankfully we found Oxton Grange and we are so pleased with the home, it was such a relief. We know that mum is safe and all her needs are met with kindness and thoughtful attention.

The staff are excellent. Apart from their necessary duties, they take the time to get to know the resident and their individual needs, both mentally and physically are identified and catered for with love, care and enthusiasm.
There is always something happening to entertain the residents, from poetry sessions to trips to the local garden centre and sometimes further afield. I am very pleased with Oxton Grange and would strongly recommend it.”

“My mother was extremely happy and well cared for at Oxton Grange Care Home. The home and staff provided her with a safe, caring, and happy home for the last year of her life, until she passed away at the end of June this year. She was treated with dignity and respect, and love from everyone who who was involved in her care. I cannot fault any aspect of her care and would recommend Oxton Grange Care Home to anyone looking for a home for their loved ones.”

Newton Hall

“Mum became a resident at Newton Hall just over twelve months ago, shortly after Dad died. They had meant the world to each other and we were very worried about how Mum would settle into a residential environment, particularly as she has dementia. We needn’t have worried at all. Whilst Newton Hall might not appear to be some glistening palace on first inspection, it does employ some of the finest carers you could possibly want and in the end that is what has really counted.

I can’t fault Mum’s care in any way. She is genuinely happy and very settled. I leave after every visit with complete piece of mind, totally confident that she couldn’t be in a better place.”

Glynn C on

“My family and I have been extremely pleased with the level of care my mum has received at Newton hall, I personally have had total peace of mind, and would not hesitate to recommend Newton hall to other families in this difficult time, unfortunately mum has to go into a nursing home now so we are very sorry to move her out of Newton hall as she has formed lovely friendships with the carers and staff who all do a great job, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them from the bottom of my heart for all what they have done in what has been a devastating period of my life seeing my mum have to go in a care home and her health decline, you have made such a difference to my family and I, thanks again and keep up the great work you all do, Karen, Elsie ,Sandra and family”

The Barns

Living in The Barns

Five years ago I could no longer care for my wife who has Alzheimer’s disease and reluctantly I secured a place for her in The Barns, nursing home, in Davenham. I say, reluctantly not because I was fearful of the quality of care she would receive but because we had been married for 57 years and we were now being separated. In many ways it was the end of our marriage and I found that very distressing.

The staff made her very welcome and she settled in well. In fact at no time has she ever asked to return home. The staff also gave me a lot of support and that has continued to the present day.

The quality of care given by the staff to both of us is quite remarkable. They are not only competent but also compassionate and this must be difficult over a long and demanding shift. My wife is now very ill, unable to talk, unable to feed herself, unable to walk and doubly incontinent but the staff still manage to get a smile from her and that is lovely to see.

I aim to visit my wife four times a week and to stay with her for several hours, and as a result I have got to know the staff very well. I often say that they have become part of my family. Our little chats and the odd bit of banter have done much to retain my sanity!

The Barns and Davenham Hall are situated in a lovely part Of Cheshire and the surrounding large grounds are very attractive. In the early years my wife enjoyed being taken round the colourful garden and watching the wildlife on the pond. She is now too ill to do that but I continue to get pleasure and relief when I walk along the long drive flanked by lime trees and see the Pennines in distance.

The past few years have been difficult but I shall always be grateful to the staff at The Barns for the high quality of care they have given to my wife and the support given to me.

The Cedars

“The compassion and tenderness that was shown to my husband was way beyond the call of duty. All the team at The Cedars not just looked after my husband with the utmost care but also myself and my daughter. I cannot ever repay them and will remain indebted to them for making his time there so comfortable and for showing him so much kindness.”

I am happy to advise you that Ted (Albert) Griffiths is being looked after in every possible way.  Unfortunately he has several medical conditions which your nurses and carers take care of with complete efficiency and, most importantly of all, with love and kindness.

I have every confidence in Tina and Jean who do everything they can to keep him well and happy.  Thankfully he is a very polite and gentle man and I am most grateful that I have the Cedars staff to look after him now that I can no longer cope.

Finally I would like to add that I always receive a friendly greeting and welcome whenever I visit, which is every day.

Jill Griffiths

Dad went in at the end of February for palliative care as his heart is failing.

I can’t sum up just how caring and efficient the staff have been! They have so much time for Dad, making sure he’s comfortable, checking if he needs anything, being really careful and caring when taking him to the toilet or up to bed. Whatever he wants he gets. They shower him, administer his meds, rub cream on his sores, give him his nebuliser – all really professionally.

There are plenty of staff, at night as well as in the day. Dad needs nursing care and there is always nurses onsite.

The home is very airy, bright. modern and clean, no smell unlike many we looked at, and we looked at a lot! Meals are excellent – it was his birthday today and they made him a cake.

His room has a TV and walk-in shower. They have lifting equipment and know how to use it. They have activities such as dominos, skittles and bird watching.

Not much more I can think of to say other than I thoroughly recommend this home.

Yockleton Grange

Staff are exceptional – kind, caring and patient – nothing is too much trouble,
Homely atmosphere – my father feels looked after and cared for. He is happy and content. Such a relief for myself.

Westwood Hall

“My father spent four months at Westwood Hall. The staff there are fantastic, caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. I was impressed with how efficiently the home was run, the quality of the food/rooms and the care my father received whilst there. I would have no hesitation in recommending Westwood Hall to anyone.”
